Jersey organ donation law change comes into effect
As of Monday 1st July, all adults in Jersey will now be considered to have agreed to be an organ donor when they die unless they have opted out, making the decision not to donate.
The decision to change the law on the island was taken in April 2018, when the States voted 44 votes to 1 in favour of approving the new law.
Unless they have previously opted in or out, islanders are being urged to register their decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register. Everyone is being urged to share their decision with their family.
Jersey follows Wales where the law was changed in December 2015, and the law is also due to change in both England and Scotland in 2020. The Isle of Man and Guernsey also have plans to change their legislation.
